Jack made the school talent show!

He was so nervous last week when they had try-outs for the elementary school talent show (3rd, 4th & 5th graders). Yes...they had try-outs. I was surprised, but when I saw how many kids tried out I understood why! Jack chickened out at first. Parents weren't allowed in, but when the 3rd graders came out after auditioning Jack wasn't with them. I asked his friend where he was and she didn't know. She said he didn't do it. So after all the kids left I started to walk back toward the auditorium and out he came with a teacher. He ended up doing it and the teacher was really impressed! I still wasn't sure if he would make it since he wouldn't do it at first, thinking they wouldn't want someone who is scared to perform in front of an audience. But he came home yesterday saying he made it! He was SOOOOO EXCITED. He said it was the best day of his life. So he's been practicing and practicing, and getting better. Not perfect yet, but he's got one week! He's feeling more confident now and says he will be less nervous. Tomorrow is rehearsal after school so that will give him another chance to do it in front of a group of people before the talent show. Way to go Jack!

By the way, he learned the first part of Fur Elise in one day so he could do it for the talent show. He's always been good at picking up piano tunes by ear. I played the first part for him and asked if he wanted to learn it, he said yes, so I taught it to him. It took him a week to get smoother with it and now he's starting to pick up some speed. With more practice I think by next week it will sound perfect!

Way to go Jack! Good luck in your performance. I used to have the entire Fur Elise memorized and I performed it for one of my piano recitals back when I was younger. I wish I had never stopped with the piano.
